Realtor® Associations and Real Estate Continuing Education

What role does my Realtor® Association play in real estate continuing education? Realtor® Associations, including NAR, do not determine which real estate classes are approved for real estate continuing education, although some State Realtor® Associations have strong relationships with their state’s real estate commission or department of real estate. It is not uncommon for a State Realtor® Association to give input regarding real estate topics for approved real estate renewal classes. It is actually a benefit to the real estate licensees if these two entities are working hand in hand to offer better real estate classes, better broker classes, and an overall higher quality of continuing education classes.
Many Realtor® Associations provide real estate continuing education hours for their members. These Associations may submit their real estate classes to their state’s real estate commission or department of real estate for continuing education, so members can earn continuing education credit while taking real estate courses. They may offer, for instance, a real estate ethics class that is needed for real estate renewal. These real estate hours may be provided online, as well, and may be approved for real estate continuing education through the real estate commission or department of real estate, and may be approved for continuing education required through the State’s Realtor® Association as well.
It is sometimes less expensive to purchase the entire real estate package, however, from the same real estate school, rather than taking the classes individually from various schools and/or Realtor® Associations. For example, if you need to take eight, 3-hour real estate classes, it might cost $25.00 per class totally $200.00, but the 8-class continuing education package might only cost $150.00. Plus, if you have lost your certificate or need to supply information about a real estate continuing education class, it may be easier for you to find the information from just one real estate school. Check your state’s requirements and then find the best option to meet your real estate continuing education needs.
